In the real sense, education started from the first day of existence. Considering the bible’s account of creation, the first man had learnt how to survive in the garden of Eden and the knowledge of survival and life was passed down to the children and to the children’s children. However, the passing of this kind of knowledge has been woven into the everyday life style of humans; and is so tagged informal education.
The impact that this article looks to examine is not of the informal education, but of the organized formal education. It is commonly said that ‘everyday things’ are often taken for granted. Take for example; the trees, no one gives the trees credit for making oxygen available for breathing, probably because no one gives oxygen itself credit; likewise, education. The general population of the world believes that education (formal) is a normal part of human existence and that it hasn’t really added much to the general development of the planet her people.
Firstly, formal education has given the opportunity for children to go through a controlled learning process, making sure their IQ is sharp, knowledge is deep and that they are updated with the current information of their immediate environment and the world at large. This has helped in shaping the society’s general growth because children are the future.
Education has brought freedom to the people of the world. A whole lot of superstitions have ruled the earth, ranging from thunderstorms being the wrath of God and the lot. Science and research has freed us from such beliefs and fears. It has also reduced the amount and result of panics caused by the unexplained occurrences by giving a scientifically proven explanation to them.
Education and Technology are tightly knit phenomena. We learn of technology basically in school and technology is also used to enhance learning. It is not a question to ask of whether or not life has gotten better with technology, even the blind can see it. Technology would have stayed with the scientists and the inventors, but education has been the vehicle to spread the news around and orient the society of how to implement the technology.
Education has also made life easier in that, there are simple hacks you can learn from school that will make living easier for you at home. Things like how to survive in a flood and others. These things make life easier due to the knowledge acquired from the lessons in school.
Education has also helped develop a better relationship amongst people from different parts of the world. Subjects like history enlighten the students on the popular parts of other countries of the world, their culture and other important information. If it happens that such students have the opportunity of travelling to another country, they won’t be totally clueless or stranded, especially if the school he or she had attended had offered subjects that taught foreign languages.
The whole world has been affected for progress by education in various ways that may not stand distinct. If anyone doubts the impact of civilization, let education be eradicated for a few years and its absence will be felt in all sectors of the society.
