Have you ever thought of more convenient shopping carts? Maybe you have imagined how comfortable it will be if you wouldn’t have to pay a delivery company or employ an extra hand to deliver goods to your customers at their desired locations. You definitely have thought about having a more convenient shopping experience! The stress of having to pay a logistics company to deliver your goods to you, or going to pick up your groceries yourself, is enough to ask for more!
Kroger Co. is considered to have grown so much in recent years, to become the largest grocery chain in America. Luckily for those of us who love comfort, Kroger is introducing a new technology of self-driving delivery cars! How cool is that!? Life just gets better with technology!
Ever since Amazon bought Whole Foods, which caused a shift in the grocery delivery industry, Kroger Co. has continually invested in development projects in the digital transformation of the industry.
Neuro, a Tech Startup based in the Bay Area was approached by the board of Kroger, to partner in this project when it was conceived and approved. Neuro is known to be specialized in autonomous driving and robotics. They have declared that due to the R1 driverless technology in the Toyota Prius, they will be using it in the launch of the self-driving delivery car.
The company will be doing a test-run of their innovation in Arizona, which means the inhabitants of Arizona will get the honor of being the first to have unmanned delivery vehicles deliver their groceries to their doorsteps. However, in the first test, there will be a driver in the car, for safety reasons, and for observation as it is Nuro’s first of such software.
For as low as $5.95, anyone has the liberty to order their grocery supplies and have them delivered to their doorsteps within a few hours by these unmanned self-driving delivery cars. You will get your order the same day; as a matter of fact, in a few hours. You might think this is for small purchases alone, but it’s not. The vehicle can contain as much as 12 filled grocery bags, and the fee remains the same. This means you can cut off the time you spend getting groceries, and use it for more productive things in your day
How Does It Work?
Kroger has a ClickList system where customers can log on to, to place an order. This ClickList system is available through an app or a website.
After the order has been placed, the system filters the order based on preference and time-slot availability, to determine when the delivery will be made. Although, it is either on the same day or the next day.
The unmanned self-driving cars will then be deployed, with your groceries in it, to your location.
On arrival of the unmanned delivery car, you will get a text on your phone to pick up your order outside your house.
You will then enter a unique passcode that filters your products, and gives them to you. This passcode ensures that only you can get what you ordered for, and prevents anyone from taking more than they paid for.
This means that grocery stores will reduce costs and stress on delivery to customers, and consumers will also get their orders earlier for a very reasonable flat fee.
Although it is still at the test run stage, customers love it already because they think it will definitely achieve the aim of making grocery shopping more convenient.
