The last century has experienced the highest number of inventions and more technological appliances are being created till date to make life easier for every man. However, many of these inventions are quite unknown to many. This article aims to give a highlight of a few inventions that have most recently been created.
BEAM OF INVISIBILITY
As many other inventions, a cloak of invisibility has been showcased in a couple of movies before now; Star Trek and Harry Potter. The recent research and experiments have proved that invisibility can really be achieved. The Technical University of Vienna has developed a new technology to render objects visible through a ray of light. They have discovered that when light passes through several objects, it does not go through a straight passage. It scatters itself through the object; inside the object, and comes out in another straight ray. This may owe its essence to the disorderly construction of such complex materials. The invisibility can be achieved through this technique, a shining beam projects a corresponding pattern of light on the material from above, like a projector with a higher resolution. The pattern of the beam matches the pattern of the object so that it can alter the material’s properties to make it transparent when it meets the ray of light coming from the side of the object. The complexity of the technology is that each object to be made transparent must be irritated with its own pattern of arrangement.
SEE THROUGH TECHNOLOGY
– Many people call it a super-power or the “See” real-life superpower. It is a technology that allows one to see through wall and other things. Just like a lot of other inventions, this has been seen in a lot of sci-fi movies and novels. Leaving being just fiction, scientists are at work to make this technology available on mobile phones through the cameras. It can detect hidden objects especially when they are moving around. As much as this might sound like a naughty trick, the researchers claim that it can reduce the death rate, especially car accidents by helping drivers see if there are pedestrians crossing the road or approaching vehicles at blind corners. It is also said that this technology can help the police or special forces find out what is going on at the other side of a wall in a hostage situation. One of the researchers behind this technology is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Imaging Scientist; Katie Bouman. In 2015, she had said that the mechanism for this technology would cost a fortune and really specialized hardware like an unbelievably fast laser and an equally sensitive camera. However, more recently, she declared that their new invention would require only a smartphone camera. The new system they are working with called CornerCameras uses the natural light in the surrounding of a hidden object to see its reflection that falls within the sight of the camera.
Technology has helped life and is still helping human existence. It will be very helpful to have such impossibilities proven wrong with the help of science.
