Could you imagine life without technology and inventions? No cars, carts or carriages. No phones, email or post mail. Nothing at all to help man’s existence, just nature. Would you survive if you have to depend on firewood and a spark from the clash of two stones to make fire? Maybe you will or maybe not, but we must acknowledge how much technology has helped human’s existence. Life gets easier by day with inventions like washing machines, dishwashers, match sticks, gas cookers, cars, mobile phones, the internet and many medical technologies. This article therefore aims at identifying Two of technological inventions that has change and progressed the world as a whole.
As far back as 3500 years BC, man experienced the first revolution in transportation. It must have been very difficult to transport heavy things from one place to another. Transportation must have been by foot and weights must have been carried from place to place on human heads, shoulder or hands. This must have limited the amount of things that could be transported within a given period of time and also caused humans a lot of stress. However, the wheel came into play. It wasn’t as easy as it may be now to make a wheel in those days, but at approximately 3500BC, man made wheels out of wood. Resent researchers say that it must have been difficult to make wheels that were perfectly round and easy to roll on untarred roads in those days, especially when they are being made from wood. Wheels alone couldn’t move things around, so the axle which has to go through a hole in the wheel was also made. The axle making, must also have been equally difficult, because it had to fit into the hole of the wheel, which may not have been perfectly measured, being not too tight and not too lose. This invention lifted a huge burden for humans and improvements on it which has birthed many locomotors like carts, trolleys, cars etc., is still saving lives till date.
What if different parts of the world had no idea of one another’s existence? No awareness, no connection, no trade, no international relations. We are just born into the good times and we enjoy the labors of the fathers. Centuries ago, sailors, mariners and travelers could not voyage far from land i.e. far from home, because they could lose their way. Ancient mariners started reading the stars to find their way but the technic could not work in the day or on cloudy nights. However, around the 10th century, China invented the first compass from lodestone; a naturally magnetized iron ore that still attracts attention from many researchers and scientists till date. This invention when it got to the hands of European and Arab countries increased world trade and relations. It is on this technology that more modern compasses and GPS trackers have been created.
Technology is still getting better by day and soon, the human species will be able to do what the current world tags as impossible.
