Well, as with most things, the end has arrived for Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model. Apparently the show will end its 13 year run after the final show airs in December. Are they having some creative differences? Who knows. I think we’ve outgrown it. In fact, their audience is probably looking for a little more diversity. I dunno.
CW CEO Mark Pedowitz didn’t indicate any negatives in why the show was ending in this particular piece of statement borrowed from broadwayworld.com. He just talked about the success of the show, quote:
America’s Next Top Model was a successful franchise [for UPN then CW] [not only for great ratings], but a global pop culture phenomenon. I want to thank Tyra and [Ken Mok] for [making the show] not just popular in the [United States], but all across the world.”
I’m sure the show has millions of fans who are going to be disappointed by the news of the show ending. What Tyra Banks has up her sleeve is still unknown, but it’s unlikely she will just disappear from the public.
Personally, I don’t think she will ever resort to having a life out of the modeling world. She’s probably got a long list of calls to return already with this news going public. Hope she chooses something with a little more substance. Not that modeling isn’t a genuine career, but there are many more causes she could promote with her platform. Maybe Children’s Hospital burn unit makeovers, you know, something to still relate to beauty, but more charitable.
Any ideas? Maybe Tyra is going to work on having a family. A few weeks ago she was on a talk show and she was brought to tears during a discussion about having babies. Here’s the clip if you’re interested.
I know after writing all of this, it’s main focal point has been Tyra Banks. I totally associate her with Top Model US, and don’t think the show would be the same without her leading it. While we’re thinking of Tyra Banks’ future, let’s watch her work the runway back in the 90’s in the following film clip.
I know there were several outfits in the video, but I totally loved the shorts outfit about thirty seconds into the video. This stuff is decades old, but I would STILL wear it NOW, twenty-three years later. So CUTE! So cute, in fact, I’m going to use a screengrab from it to put at the top of this article.
