Another Connecticut town that’s worth visiting, or moving to, depending on your financial situation, is Darien. Darien is a small, wealthy town in which yachting is a very popular activity. That kind of says it all, doesn’t it?
Conveniently enough, Darien is a 40-minute drive from Manhattan, which makes it perfect for New York City’s wealthy businessmen. It is the smallest town on Connecticut’s famous ‘Gold Coast’, and it has a number of country clubs, a boat club, a yacht club, and a hunting club. And two public beaches, which can be visited by non-residents, who already have a private beach in their $15 million houses.
Woodbury, New York
Located in New York State's Orange County, the town of Woodbury is known for its picturesque downtown, lush nature, and massive houses. Bordered by the Schunnemunk Mountain to the west, there are plenty of places to go hiking in Woodbury.
Although, if you already paid the $1 million needed to buy a house here, you might as well stay inside forever, since you'll probably be short of cash for the next 30 years.
Tiburon, California
It's no wonder that Forbes once called the C "arguably California's best-kept paradise". Just a ferry ride away from the bustling city of San Francisco, Tiburon has slowly become a haven for the rich entrepreneurs of Silicon Valley. Luxurious in a very un-flashy way, this town has classic mansions, gorgeous seacoast, virgin hiking trails, and more.
However, don't get too relaxed, because a house here can cost up to $19 million! Of course, we're talking about a seven-bedroom, 13,000-square-foot house with its own tennis court, so the price may drop to a humble $5 million if you're looking for a one-bedroom. Good luck!
Los Altos Hills, California
California is mentioned several times on this list, but its town of Los Altos Hills is definitely one of the wealthiest places in the state. Interestingly, the developers of Los Altos Hills decided they didn't want to create a commercial town full of stores and businesses, but instead make a quiet, luxurious space for rich Silicon Valley CEOs.
In fact, the town has strict policies that include a commercial ban on businesses operating within the town borders. There are only two stores in Los Altos Hills - a book shop and a gift shop. But with the $50 million price tag on the town's houses, we doubt residents need any stores at all. The houses probably come with integrated supermarkets.
Lawrence, New York
Another New York gem, Lawrence is a village in New York state with a population of 6,500, among them Steve Madden, Donna Karan, Nancy McCartney, and the late Peggy Lipton. And when you get a look at the houses in this town, you won't be surprised.
The beachside villas, sunset views, green landscapes, and friendly residents make Lawrence a great place to live. If you have about $3 million to buy a small house, that is.
