While everybody couldn’t be more excited about the name they found for themselves, The Rat Pack, rumor has it that Sinatra had reservations.
To this day, nobody knows exactly why, but it’s safe to assume he wasn’t keen on being called a rat. Still, he went along with it and didn’t complain about it, not even when he became the head of the pack, after Bogart’s death in 1957.
Marrying Carl Wilson
When you are the daughter of a famous successful man, it can be hard to find a man who can understand what you are really going through. Dean's daughter, Deana Martin found the perfect man, The Beach Boys' singer, and songwriter Carl Wilson.
The two married in 1987 with Wilson already having one marriage and two children under his belt. Still, the two made it work and they stayed together till death did them part.
The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast
If you thought that Hollywood celebrities gathering to poke fun at themselves and others was a pretty recent phenomenon, think again. The first known roast was held at The Friars Club in 1949. In 1974, Martin and his rat pack got the chance to keep the tradition going.
The show had 54 spectacular episodes and ran till 1984. At that time they got to laugh at some of the greatest including Muhammad Ali, Bette Davis, and Kirk Douglas.
Martin Became a Hermit
People were used to seeing him as a part of a gang, but in his final years of life, he preferred to be alone at home. He was supposed to go on a reunion tour with Davis and Sinatra but decided to quit. He then spent time outside of the public eye, until he passed away in 1995 at 78.
Sinatra didn't attend his funeral but sent his wife instead. It's not clear why he wouldn't attend the ceremony for one of his best friends.
Joey Bishop's Brat Pack
Bishop was one of the stars of "Ocean's 11". While filming the movie, he performed with the others at the Sands Hotel in Vegas. He was actually one of the act's main writers. After performing with the pack in films like "Sergeants 3" and "Texas Across" he moved on.
Out of all of the original members, he was the only one who worked with a young group of actors who called themselves the Brat Pack. Clever.
