Did you know that Lawford, a member of the brat pack, was the brother-in-law of President Kennedy? He was initially invited to join the pack by none other than Sinatra and then became a part of the iconic “Ocean’s 11” film.
He even landed a role in the acclaimed “Exodus” (1960). He ended up being banished from the group because of a fight he had with Sinatra in 1962.
Martin Became a Hermit
People were used to seeing him as a part of a gang, but in his final years of life, he preferred to be alone at home. He was supposed to go on a reunion tour with Davis and Sinatra but decided to quit. He then spent time outside of the public eye, until he passed away in 1995 at 78.
Sinatra didn't attend his funeral but sent his wife instead. It's not clear why he wouldn't attend the ceremony for one of his best friends.
Joey Bishop's Brat Pack
Bishop was one of the stars of "Ocean's 11". While filming the movie, he performed with the others at the Sands Hotel in Vegas. He was actually one of the act's main writers. After performing with the pack in films like "Sergeants 3" and "Texas Across" he moved on.
Out of all of the original members, he was the only one who worked with a young group of actors who called themselves the Brat Pack. Clever.
Dean Martin Wasn't Welcome in Britain
For some reason, people in the United Kingdom just weren't impressed by Dean Martin. Because of this, he didn't come to perform there frequently. In the early 1980s, he decided to give it another go. But, alas, it seems like he just couldn't get it right.
By the time he came back, Brits felt that his singing voice was already pretty much gone. He didn't care and continued singing till 1991, but most people agree he should have stopped singing in the mid-70s.
Calling Out Other Actors
Many celebrities in general, and actors specifically, like to pretend that they are just like us. And while we're all human beings, of course, nobody we know lives in a $5 million mansion. Despite being one of them, Martin called out actors who claim that acting is a difficult job.
He has been quoted saying "I can't stand an actor or actress who tells me acting is hard work. It's easy work. Anyone who says it never had to stand on his feet all day dealing blackjack."
