With a career spanning more than six decades, American folk singer, poet, and musician Bob Dylan is regarded as one of the greatest artists of all time. Dylan was a key figure in America’s 60s counterculture, with perhaps his greatest works being released during that decade.
Wherever he would go, Dylan would bring this mysterious aura with him and everyone in the room couldn’t help but stand still and admire his presence. John Wayne Gets Drinks at a Costume Party
At 64, American Western hero John Wayne still enjoyed a good party. In the photo below, we see Wayne getting some drinks at a charity costume party in Los Angeles in 1971. The man was still making movies, the most recent being 'Big Jake,' released in that same year.
We don't know if Wayne was in costume or not since the Western style became an essential part of his character. Whatever it was, he looked dapper and ready to have a wild night. Of course, Wayne entered many a saloon during his time starring in some of Hollywood's most epic Western flicks.
Joni Mitchell Chills Out in the Garden
The 60s and 70s wouldn't have been the same without Canadian folk singer Joni Mitchell. A very important figure in the counterculture and beat generation of the 60s, Joni Mitchell's songs became anthems of the times. These included her classic number "Big Yellow Taxi," as well as the entirety of her album "Blue."
Above, the gorgeous Joni chills out barefoot at a party in the home of Cass Elliott of the famous band The Mamas and The Papas. They all went to Elliott's Los Angeles pad after attending a John Denver concert in 1972. We love how legends used to hang out like it was just a Tuesday.
Patrick Swayze Kisses His Wife at a Movie Premiere
Heartthrob Patrick Swayze rose to fame during the late 70s and went on to have a very successful acting career during the 80s and 90s. One of the first movies he starred in was 1979's 'Skatetown, USA,' a comedy musical released at the height of the roller disco craze.
Above we see a young Patrick Swayze lovingly kissing his then-wife, actress and dancer Lisa Niemi. The couple was attending the premiere party for the 1979 movie, fittingly held at Flipper's Roller Rink club in Los Angeles. We can't tell you how much was miss "Crazy Swayze." of course, his best was to come in the 80s.
Sammy Davis Jr. and his Wife Get Romantic at a Party
Now here's a couple that was the epitome of 70s grooviness, music legend Sammy Davis Jr. and his wife, Altovise Davis. In the photo below, the couple is caught sneaking a romantic kiss while attending a party around 1975.
Altovise Davis was an entertainer and dancer known for her very stylish fashion, like her cool black halter top. Sammy is wearing a vintage, patterned blouse with a patchwork vest over it and matching pants. Of course, Sammy Davis Jr. was part of the legendary Rat Pack, alongside the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. They were an absolute force of nature.
