The police had everything they needed now. They had videos, photographs, addresses, and a number plate. Moreso, Melissa made sure the story went viral and it became the only thing people spoke about. The residents of the neighborhood were shocked that they had been supporting professional thieves for such a long time.
Instead of their money going to a good cause, it was used for luxury cars and beautiful apartments. The thing that everyone was most concerned about was the little boy. They wanted to make sure he was safe and where he belonged. Then one of the journalists received a phone call.
Melissa rushed home to get together all of the evidence she had as she wanted to report everything on her social media accounts. She wanted to warn her neighborhood of what was going on and that the poor pregnant woman was not that poor after all. She was not going to leave it at that and contacted the local news station.
She knew they were always interested in new stories, and Melissa wanted to do whatever she could to put an end to this scam. It wasn't so difficult to track the car down as Melissa took photos of the number plate so they knew exactly where it came from and who it belonged to.
Visiting the Woman
The luxurious car was registered under a female's name. The news station became obsessed and wanted Melissa to share every bit of information she had. The journalists wanted to find out where the poor (or not so) woman was living, whether it was the same person who owned the car, and if the child she was hanging around with was her son.
They managed to connect the names and car numberplates to an exquisite apartment complex, and everything else they managed to come up with was immediately published. There was no going back now. It turned out that no one had been living at that address for a while, however, a new couple had just recently moved in and knew nothing about what was going on.
Caught in the Act
A resident of the area named Rebecca was on the line. She told the journalist that she had spotted a female beggar at a nearby shopping center. One journalist remained to interview Rebecca, and another team of reporters made their way to the shopping center to see if they could catch the pregnant beggar in action.
Rebecca was furious and angry that these people were able to lie, steal, and turn their loved neighborhood into a crime scene. Police cars were everywhere, and people felt insecure and vulnerable. Everything was peaceful where they lived, and overnight, it became part of the evening news.
The Search Ensued
One of the ABC news channel reporters was at the shopping center where it was thought the beggar was seen and began searching the place for pregnant women that could match the description. Then, she saw a woman who looked rough; her clothes were dirty, and she looked very much like the woman from Melissa's pictures.
Now, this woman the news reporter believed to be the beggar didn't seem to be pregnant anymore, and she was holding a small baby in her arms. The reporter wouldn't let her go, as she felt this could be the story of a lifetime, and she wasn't about to give it up.
