Tomatoes are another fruit that proves to be high in potassium and doesn't fit the guidelines of a renal diet. Tomatoes can be served raw or stewed and are often used to make sauces. Just one cup of tomato sauce can contain 900 mg of potassium.
Choosing an alternative to tomatoes with lower potassium does depend on your taste preferences. Simply swapping tomato sauce for a roasted red pepper sauce can be just as delicious and provide less potassium per serving.
