A Jacket Around Your Waist
Jackets are meant to be worn on your body, not tied around your waist, so while it might be a trend nowadays, it's really difficult to pull off. The only exceptions are plaid button-down shirts tied around your jeans and we aren't even sure those shirts are considered jackets anyway.
Even though most of us still feel like children at heart, doing this will only make you appear out of touch. If you're trying to look younger, it's best to take care and avoid this casual trend that will not only make your hips look wider, but will also make your outfit look messier.
Not Being Mindful of Your Colors
Not every color under the sun is going to look good on you, and that's fine. The natural colors of your skin, hair, and eyes will determine what colors make you shine the brightest. A good investment anyone can make for themselves is to find out what colors suit their skin tone.
If you have warm undertones, you should wear warmer colors; if you have cool undertones, cool colors work better for you. Once you find your colors, all you have to do is purchase a few staple pieces in those colors that suit you and mix them in with your current wardrobe.

Wearing a silky scarf around your neck may feel chic and elegant, but it will also draw unwanted attention to your neck area, which women of a certain age usually try to avoid. And let's not put aside the fact that you might be mistaken for a 60s airline stewardess.

Besides, wearing flip-flops does not provide your foot with proper support, so opting for sandals is probably a better option anyway. Unless you are going to places other than the pool or the beach, there really is no reason for you to wear them.

We guess that the choice of these sleeves usually stems from wanting to cover floppy arms, however, normally fitted sleeves will do the trick and do it even better. Even at the best of times, these tops are unflattering, so better avoid them at all costs and wear something tailored.

Look, we are the last people on the planet to tell you how you should or shouldn't use your nails to express yourself. We can, however, walk you through the risks of your choices. Yes, you can wear lavishly decorated nails that bling almost as much as your diamond rings. That's fully your prerogative.
However, what we do know is that they're not doing you any favors when it comes to looking younger. Having nails that stand out too much will only draw attention to your hands, which you might want to rein in more as you age. Sticking to short nails with nude or clear polish is usually the best course of action.
Velour Tracksuits
We should all now be privy to the 21st century’s worst fashion trend, in which women pair velour tracksuits together and then strut around pretending they’re Jennifer Lopez. We get the appeal — they're comfortable, they feel nice on your skin, and they come in various colors and sizes.
However, they are best left in loungewear territory. Basically, if you ever decide to wear these matching pieces to LEAVE the house, just don't. Preparing for a home workout session? About to cook something fun? Feeling like lazing about with your new Netflix binge? As long as it's an indoor activity, knock yourself out.

The point of matte makeup is to add color without any sheen. This might have been fashionable a couple of years ago, but now this trend is done and dusted, meaning that if you use it you are running the risk of appearing outdated. Newer makeup products will try to help you achieve a frech-faced dewy effect rather than matte.
That being said, this choice really depends on your skin type: oily skin usually has a natural sheen and doesn't need help looking dewy. This means that trying to add a dewy effect to it will just make it look unflatteringly wet.

Somehow, at the same time, it will also make you look like a child who got lost in their father's suit jacket. Neither of those effects is something people usually aim for. While it might not be as trendy, we'd suggest wearing a fitted blazer, and if you feel the need to lean into trends, accessorize with bespoke jewelry.

Wearing a two-piece tweed suit might be too much, so to offset any unwanted impressions, we'd recommend twinning a tweed blazer with slim black trousers and pointy heels. Or, if you're in possession of cool tweed pants, pair them with a shirt or blouse of lighter fabric that will contrast the heavy wool.
Knitwear
As soon as the weather becomes a little wintery, we all reach for our favorite knitwear, and why shouldn't we? It's comfy and warm! However, if your outfit makes you look more like a teddy bear, it can get pretty tricky trying to look younger. Though tricky doesn't mean impossible.
The easier way to wear that precious sweater your aunt knitted for you is to try to create a more defined overall silhouette. Pair your larger pieces of knitwear with other items that are more form-fitting, like a good pair of jeans, or something more stylish, like a pencil skirt and boots.
Being Too Conservative
In regards to the world of feminine fashion, it seems you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. But if find your style tends to be a little too conservative and boring, you should definitely try to spice things up if you want to look a little younger.
A bad example of dressing too conservatively would be pairing tweed with pearls or wearing boxy pants suits over frilly blouses. When worn together, they're too much, but if you wear them separately with more modern pieces, they'll work great! You can pair your frilly blouse with a pair of blue jeans or those lovely pearl earrings with a little black dress.
Too Much Pastel
Depending on your natural complexion, wearing too much pastel clothing can make you look a bit lackluster and dull. Those with light, fair complexion can appear washed out when wearing these, while darker skin can contrast it beautifully. But not to worry, if your skin is light and you like wearing pastels, you still can. Just pair them with other shades and hues.
Experiment with your closet and be frank about which hues highlight your features and which ones wash you out. When wanting to wear an item in a relatively muted color, pair it with an item in a warmer color, and you will have a much younger, happier look.
Capri Pants
Never in the history of fashion, did capri pants flattered anyone. Man or woman, old or young, tall or short. This cut that ends a little too far under the knee yet not far enough to reach the ankle is an abomination that somehow still exists despite what we would like to think of people's better judgment.
Those dreaded capris somehow make you look shorter and older at the same time. Capris make your legs look shorter because their cut stops around your calves, making your legs look wider, and that's just not flattering. Ditch these unflattering trousers for something more modern, like wide-legged pants.
Longer Skirts
We should all aspire to wear age-appropriate clothing, but a skirt that goes all the way to your ankles can potentially end up doing more harm than good by making yourself look frumpy. However, notice we said "potentially". Just like nearly everything on this list (and in life), it's all a question of individual styling and knowing what works for your body shape.
If you like wearing loose-fitting skirts, it's best to pair them with a tailored blazer or a fitted top. But make sure your proportions are in check, as wearing a long skirt means you'll need to balance it with something shorter on top.
Chunky Highlights
The '90s were defined by bizarre hair moments, and chunky highlights were one of them! We bet we can all remember when those heavy blonde streaks were in fashion, along with butterfly clips and glittery makeup. But now we should all know that this look is way past its prime.
Having a head full of bleach blonde streaks is enough nowadays to turn heads in disdain and have people taking. Fortunately, hairstyles have come a long way; now you can try more subtle versions like balayage, which is a technique for highlighting hair but in a more gradual, natural-looking effect.
Matching Too Much
While we all aspire to look like we didn't just roll out of bed as we leave the house in the morning, wearing too many matched items may not be the right way to do it. Yes, you may have put a lot of thought into that matchy look, but it can make you look a little like a candy wrapper if you are not careful.
That's not to say you should never match, but unless you are wearing a suit or a two-piece set that was designed to go together, try some alternatives. We recommend experimenting with wearing pants that don't match your shoes and seeing what fun combinations you can come up with.
Flashy Jewelry
While it may be many people's instinct to wear as much bling as they can, overdoing it can be self-defeating and weigh you down. Decades ago, women used to wear almost every piece of jewelry they had whenever they left the house for different reasons.
It could have been a status symbol, and it could also have been a way of keeping those expensive items under your watchful eye at all times. However, things are different now, and putting on too much will create a ”gypsy on the run” look. It is better not to embellish yourself too much and stick to a more modest set of accessories.
Turtlenecks
Turtlenecks are a dangerous proposition. On one hand, many women of a certain age will opt for one to hide any dwindling of the skin around the neck area. On the other hand, they can easily backfire, making you look a little passé and bringing more attention to your chin area, which isn't always helpful.
This isn't to say that you need to get rid of all of your turtlenecks, but just be mindful of the specific cut and fit. Also, when you want a classic look that's more timeless than behind the times, wear a turtleneck with a pair of jeans or a trendy blazer.
Not Wearing a Belt
This entry, interestingly, is not about your conventional use of a belt (in the loops on your pants) but rather a more creative placement of it. Wearing tailored clothes that fit you well will make you look slimmer and younger. This means that looser or ill-fitting clothes might look frumpy on you, so why not wear a belt over that boxy dress?
Not all clothes need to be tightly fitted, but if you feel like you look more shabby than you'd like, throw over a belt, and voila! It doesn't matter how old you are, you can always use that tip to accentuate a curve or two, or even create the illusion of it.
Wearing Sheer Pantyhose
Nowadays, the only acceptable pantyhose colors are black or nude ones that blend well with your skin tone. If you're spotted wearing stockings that are not the right match for your skin, nothing else you’re wearing is going to matter. You and your plastic-looking legs are going to look several years older than you really are.
Pantyhose, in general, are a clothing item that we see less and less of. On people younger than 50, that is. On younger crowds, you may find them as a fun addition to a mini skirt/boots combination in early fall but that's about it.
Sunglasses
Don't get us wrong. We are not saying you shouldn't wear sunglasses. These accessories can be as functional as they are fashionable. However, one needs to know exactly what kind of sunglasses to wear. Unless you’re a shape-shifter, you only have one face — and that's actually helpful when it comes to finding the perfect sunglasses for your face shape.
Whichever style you go for, don't wear something that will weigh you down too much, like thick, black frames with sharp edges. Online guides are incredibly handy in helping you figure out which frame shape goes with your bone structure.
Over Plucking Your Brows
This world is full of supposed beauty faux pas peppered with no-good reputations and your eyebrows are no exception. They help frame your face and draw attention to your eyes, so keep them well-groomed but don't over-pluck them into thin lines that make them look like they were drawn on your face with a sharpie.
Sure, we've all been guilty of over-plucking our eyebrows at some point in our lives. But besides making you appear older, over-plucking your eyebrows can actually damage and even ruin the hair follicles, which produce and generate hair growth, so plucking your hair all the time only means the brow hair may not grow back. So don't overdo it!
Let’s Brooch It
First of all, there's a fine line between classic and antiquated. A brooch is antiquated and not as classic as might think. Yes, they were considered stylish back in the day, but now it's better to keep your brooches for sentimental value and not wear them.
They might even accrue in value if you keep them in good condition! That being said, using a strategic brooch instead of a safety pin can really upscale a look. So, what we're trying to say is to be mindful of your brooch's design and placement. Instead of wearing them on your lapel like your great aunt used to do, consider using them on your bag or instead of a coat button.
Never Smiling
People, especially women, have a complicated relationship with smiling. When a stranger on the street asks you to smile for them, that's about the last thing you want to do. Also, we constantly see women who are trying to get rid of their smile lines as they grow older. But the truth is smiling makes you appear younger!
In a study, young, middle-aged, and older individuals inspected thousands of photographs and were asked to guess the age of models with varying facial expressions. As it turns out, happy faces were rated as younger than they really were, while unhappy faces were rated older! Now that alone is reason enough to make you smile!
Outdated Handbags
It is a known fact that as women age they tend to carry larger bags. And most of the time they don't really have to. And neither do you! When it comes to handbags and purses, there's a spectrum of different styles, colors, and designs to pick from.
So why use the massive handbag that not only weighs you down but also makes you look like Mary Poppins? Ms. Poppins is a fierce diva but she was also created in the 1930s. You weren't. Smaller clutch bags and purses are trendy now, and if you’re looking for something more utilitarian, tote bags and a neat backpack are also in.
Everything Floral
Wait, what? What's the problem with wearing flowers? Well, we aren't saying you need to dispose of anything floral in your closet. Just take a look at your florals and think: do they look like a fun spring getup or do they remind you more of your grandmother's curtains?
Wearing floral everything can make you blend in with the furniture, not to mention it also ages you. If you enjoy your floral clothes, then rather wear tailored pieces that you can pair well with casual items, like denim or a plain white t-shirt. If you’re wondering what other patterns you can wear in place of florals, try a summer dress with a bold tropical print, or try incorporating a geometric pattern that will modernize your look.
Heavy Eye Makeup
You might only dabble in the occasional cat-eye look, but back in the 90s, heavy eye makeup was all the rage. You might think your look is nice, but all that heavy eyeliner-shadow combination only makes you look more mature and can make your eyes appear smaller.
Sure, makeup artists on Instagram might have a different take on that view, but that's their job. Also, most of them are in their early twenties so they couldn't care less about appearing young. Those who are interested in achieving a younger look should stick to one of the two: eyeliner or eyeshadow. Never both. And a bare and bright-eyed look might be even better.
Sunbathing
Those days we all spent laying out in the sun for hours, doing unrepairable damage to our skin just to achieve some semblance of a tan, are over. While we're not suggesting you avoid the sun completely, tanning is simply not as popular as it used to be.
Nowadays, it's all about looking after your skin, which means using SPF sunscreen when outdoors and following a skincare routine. Not to mention, overexposure of the skin to unfiltered UV rays can dehydrate your skin and make it wrinkle and age a lot sooner than you intended. You don't want that to happen, now do you?
Wearing Outdated Trends
Fashion trends come and go, and then they come back again. Think boxy blazers with shoulder pads and high-waisted jeans, which means there is nothing wrong with borrowing from the past. But you begin to date yourself when you wear your old clothes simply because you haven't updated your closet in a few decades, then that ends up looking dowdy rather than vintage.
If you love wearing trends from decades past but feel like they look dated on you, then recycle them and look for more updated versions. Do you still have those bell-bottom trousers? Pair them with a tucked-in, button-down shirt. Maybe you have a knitted cardigan that's back in style; wear it with some sleek jeans.
Bad Posture

Obviously, as we grow older, our muscles become a little weaker and don't support us as well as they used to. With this fashion tip, we're not advocating skintight clothing so you can appear more "youthful." Instead, we are suggesting that you wear pieces that are tailored to your natural body shape. Sometimes wearing baggy clothing is fun. A loose summer tunic feels romantic, and a baggy dress or a flowing pair of pants can make you feel artistic.
The real issue comes when you regularly wear pieces that are a few sizes too big. There is quite a disparity between wearing something that is designed to be loose, and wearing something that is quite obviously a few sizes too big!
Big, Poofy Hair
You see the big 80s haircut before you see the woman. She’s styled it so big you can't see anything behind her. Her hairstyle would have been considered fabulous back in the 70s and 80s, but now she looks like she's just stepped out of a time machine.
Teasing, hairspray, and over-styling, really damage your hair, leaving it dull and lifeless. What you really want to be doing is keeping your hair healthy and hydrated. Sure, Dolly Parton has built a sizeable portion of her style on that choice, but A – she uses wigs and extensions, and B – we can't all be Dolly.
Cakey Foundation
Some people decide to wear a lot of foundation in an effort to cover up or even distract from their fine lines and wrinkles. However, if the product is not of good quality it will usually have the opposite effect and what those people are really doing is making their skin appear more textured and grainy.
As a rule of thumb, if you need to pack on the product in order to see any result, don't buy it. Bad-quality foundation can irritate the skin, clog your pores, and contribute to the skin's aging process — all things we are all trying to avoid.
Not Embracing Your Natural Hair Color
The fashion industry and aging are famously not aligned. While many people believe you should steer clear of going gray and dye your natural hair, going gray can be liberating. Nowadays, gray is a fashion statement, and yes, gray hair can look attractive!
As a general rule of thumb, lighter hair can make you look younger, so why not embrace it? Also, dyeing over grey hair will sooner or later result in a faint tint of whatever color you chose over a grey halo. Once you give the grey the respect it deserves, you've got class and empowerment in your pocket.
Wearing Too Much Black
The downside of today's beauty standards is the obvious way many people choose to dress. Black may be a slimming color, but wearing an all-black outfit can make you look dull and wash out your complexion. We're not saying black is all bad; but as you age, black won't do you any favors.
If you like to wear black, then try pairing your outfit with colorful accessories or scarves. If you wear a black skirt, couple it with a brightly colored blouse and some colorful jewelry. Or vice-versa, if you wear a black top, pair it with blue jeans or bold-patterned pants and beige shoes.
Skirts Worn Over Pants
We regret to inform you that this trend from the mid-aughts is back, for no discernible reason. But don't be fooled by this maximalist trend; it's basically a nod to power dressing that does not empower you! And even if you do see this type of atrocity walking down the street, you're definitely within your right to not embrace it.
It actually just restricts mobility, so there’s no reason to wear a skirt when you're wearing pants. This prime example of Ashley Tisdale showing us what not to wear was taken in 2005 at the movie premiere of "Ice Princess." Now sobered with time, Tisdale even roasted this questionable fashion choice in a TikTok video.
Harsh Lipliner
On par with brooches and tweed, there are several trends that have come and gone for the better. You know, like stretchy jeans and bold floral patterns. However, the worst of them all is a dark lip liner that doesn't blend well (or doesn't blend at all) with your lipstick.
Almost always, you want fuller lips that will look nice and plump, so overdoing it with a lip liner will only make your mouth appear smaller and defeat the cause. If you choose to wear lip liner, don't wear a dark color, but rather pick something closer to the shade of your lipstick.
Double Denim
The "Canadian Tuxedo" or double denim look is a tough look to pull off, and we're not sure anyone ever has. So far, the only example of this fashion choice looking stylish is Britney and Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards, as pictured below.
For anyone else at any different time, it often makes people look like they are old-style cowboys or worse. There are plenty of ways to wear denim to make you look younger (or, at least, not older), but the trick here is to not overdo it. A double denim look is, unfortunately, the definition of overdoing it.
Too Much Self-Tanner
We're not sure of the science behind it, but for some reason, when people go too hard on the self-tanner, they age by at least a decade. Do not be fooled into thinking that self-tanner automatically = bronzed goddess with all blemishes and imperfections covered up.
Alas, no. Self-tanner needs to be applied moderately to achieve that, or else you end up looking unnatural. Depending on the tanner and the amount you used, the end look can resemble an Oompa-Loompa, a flaming hot Cheeto, and a certain former president. None of the above has ever been a fashion icon, and it doesn't look like they are going to be either.
Pajama Clothes
We're all for comfort and practicality over trying to impress other people, but this kind of look takes things a bit too far. A number of celebs have tried to rock this look on the red carpet, but it always looks like they are ready to hit the hay... in a nursing home.
Yes, Kris Jenner too. And it doesn't matter that her sleepwear probably costs more than your house, it's not doing her any favors. What's more, no amount of hair and makeup can save the day. In fact, the more effort that you put into your hair and makeup, the more incongruent it looks with the outfit. It's a lose-lose.
Block Eyebrows
Cast your mind back to 2014, when every beauty influencer on YouTube was sporting thick, block eyebrows. At the time, we didn't even think twice — we loved them. We were led to believe that they framed our faces well, considered them the epitome of beauty, and spent hours trying to recreate them ourselves.
It was a dark time. Don't ask, we destroyed all of the pictures. In reality, these brows weren't flattering on most people, they made teenagers look like they were in their 30s, and 30-year-olds didn't even try them because they had the sense to see that this fad was terrible.
Animal Print
Animal print is a controversial look for many reasons, but one of the chiefest among them is that there is something about it that has people over 60 years old in a chokehold. The print itself isn't all that aging; it's just that it's so prevalent among older people that a young person immediately looks older when they wear it.
Not to mention, it's a bold look no matter how you wear it, so it's likely that any added accessories will only add to the cacophony. So, unless you're Carole Baskin or looking to look like Carole Baskin (which we assume would be a hard no), opt out of these prints whenever you can.
Wearing Gray
This one won't age you just because people only typically get gray hair in their later years — it will age you because the ashy color will make you look ashen and pale as well. Obviously, lots of people wear gray and look good — the trick is to wear a darker shade of gray.
The lighter the hue, the ashier it will look, and it can end up making you look pale and sickly. As you grow older, the only light gray you want to have on you is your fabulous hair. In fact, dyeing one's hair gray is a fad many youngsters are toying with today!
Pigtails as an Adult
We don't know who needs to hear this, but please do not wear pigtails if you are over the age of, let's say... nine. Maybe if you want to dress up as a cheerleader or as a child for Halloween, then we can let this one slide, but that's pretty much it.
The reason this hairstyle ages you is because it is literally a child's hairstyle, so any adult wearing them looks like they are trying to look like a child. This only emphasizes how much you are, in fact, not a child, but a fully grown adult who hasn't received the memo on being all grown up.
Animal Hats With Paws
They may keep you warm. They may feel nice. They may remind you of that trip to the zoo when you were a kid and didn't have any rent to pay. However, those animal hats that had the long paws drooping down the sides are one of the many early 2010 trends that need to remain dead and buried.
They might have looked cute when you were 14 (they didn't), but anyone who wears them today looks like they are trying too hard to be quirky. It's a throwback to over a decade ago, and it just shows your inability to let go of your 14 years old-self concept of cool.
Alligator/Crocodile Belts
The etiquette for wearing alligator or crocodile belts is as follows: They must be huge; they must simply droop along the waist — don't even worry about them cinching anything in — and they must not, under any circumstances, match the rest of your outfit.
Given that they are generally unflattering, these belts aren't going to make you look any younger. Hey, it's not like this belt really added anything to Kim Kardashian's look in this picture, so we doubt it will do us any favors. If you're really set on wearing them, give some thought to balancing the outfit with more muted pieces.
Low-Rise Jeans
Low-rise jeans were all the rage in the 90s and early 2000s, and that's ideally where they should stay. They aren't very flattering on most body types, and they also make you look like you're cosplaying as Paris Hilton from 2002. And we all know that Paris has had much (much) better days since then.
It's just an old trend that will only make you look older — not to mention that many tops are cropped nowadays, so an extra-short top paired with extra-low jeans will create an illusion of an abnormally long torso and leave a lot on display.
Acid-Washed Denim
Acid-washed denim makes a comeback every decade or so, so it's understandable that people try to make it work. Or just keep them in their closets for the next time they are in fashion again. It's not a bad look in and of itself; it's just pretty outdated and has been brought out of retirement one too many times.
Really, the only time wearing acid-washed denim works nowadays is for an 80s-themed throwback party. Aside from that, they make you look like you're clinging onto trends of yesteryear. Our advice is to keep one pair, and one pair only, and put it in the costume box until the next comeback.
Shaved Eyebrows
We have no idea why this is a thing. Big names like Doja Cat and Kendall Jenner have exhibited this look, and the result is that they look double their ages. If that's going to be the case for Kendall Jenner, one of the world's highest-paid supermodels, we aren't holding out much hope for regular folk.
Eyebrow trends come and go, and this one is a pretty extreme investment for not a lot of payoff. The only people we can think of that would benefit from having shaved eyebrows are full-time drag queens. Except Doja Cat and Kendall Jenner are not drag queens so we're still stumped.
Too Much Filler
The irony of this one is that people usually get filler to look plumper and younger. In reality, it's a very thin and shaky line between filler achieving a youthful look, and having the reverse effect and aging you.
The reason for this is that filler, when overdone, distorts your features too much and makes you look unnatural.
Given that youthful beauty is centered around proportions and symmetry, overdoing it on the filler defeats this purpose. The cheeks look unnaturally elevated, the lips look disproportionate to the face, and the forehead, while smooth, looks expressionless. The overall effect ends up looking like a wax doll.
Photoshop and Filters
Virtually altering your appearance is very tempting for many people, but be warned — it's not all it's cracked up to be. Unless you're experienced in Photoshop, using these tools can often have an adverse effect and make you look that much older and unnaturally proportioned — kind of like what happens when you use too much filler in real life.
Airbrush filters can make you look like you're trying to hide your natural features, which just makes people think your photos are fake. So even if your pictures look younger, your real face will look even older in comparison.
Kimonos as Outerwear
Kimonos and robes can make you look relaxed, fancy, and rich when worn correctly. However, they often end up looking like pajamas. Kimonos need to be paired with a figure-hugging outfit underneath to balance out the flowyness of the garment.
If your whole outfit is too loose-fitting, throwing a kimono on top will just make you look like you're in the middle of a stroll in your nursing home. That being said, if you ARE about to take a stroll in your nursing home, a kimono will be just the right thing to do it in. Get yourself a whole collection!
Platform Sandals
Platform sandals have been making a comeback recently — and, on paper, they sound like a good idea. They're comfy, give you some added height, and, depending on who you ask, are quite stylish. The problem is, they have a certain juvenile look about them, which can make the wearer look older.
They were also big in the early 2000s, and, like with any past trend, it's tough to try out something retro without looking twice your age for it. If you are looking to add yourself a few centimeters, we would recommend high heels, heel wedges, or wearing a pair of form-fitting pants.
Hipster Fashion
Hipster fashion is characterized by baggy clothes, mismatched patterns, and the overall appearance of not trying too hard. (Though it is quite possible you spent the better part of two hours putting the look together.) Now, don't get us wrong, this works for some people, however, not everyone can pull it off, and the result is often that it makes the wearer look like a mess.
That, mixed with the hipster affinity for vintage, results in a grandma aesthetic that just does not work. If you want to make your wardrobe less mainstream, maybe start by incorporating just one hipster element rather than going full-force.
Chunky Knit Sweaters
Chunky knit sweaters fall into the category of "cozy bordering on homeless." Which sucks because they're great! Who doesn't love a chunky knit sweater? The thing is, there has been an uptick in vintage-style chunky knits with people thinking they look cute and quirky.
And while this may be true, they also make you look older by virtue of the fact that they are designed to replicate the clothes that old people wear. There are plenty of nice and stylish sweaters and coats you can opt for if you're starting to feel the cold and looking for something comforting to wrap yourself in.
Color-Tinted Glasses
Okay, this one is a little tricky, because some designs, depending on the frame and the shape of your face, can actually work. Color-tinted glasses are tough because you think you look like Robert Downey Jr., but you actually usually look like Elton John.
And that's no shade (no pun intended) to Elton John, but RDJ has looked cool and suave for decades, and Elton John... hasn't. These glasses are very flower-power chic, but they are primarily worn by older men, so it's tough to break that association and pull them off as a fashion statement in their own right.
Fanny Packs
Easy, practical, and comfortable, fanny packs are a great way to keep your possessions safe and close by. Not to mention, they literally take the load off your back if you actually wear one of these instead of a backpack or a shoulder bag. Here's the issue, though: they are guaranteed to make you look like a dad at the airport.
There's just no way around this fact. Sure, you can try wearing it cross-body for a younger, more hip look, but you can't escape looking like a dad who also wears cargo shorts and his socks pulled all the way up.
